Cristina Gamboa

CEO

World Green Building Council

Topic: Net Zero Carbon Buildings commitment

 

Cristina Gamboa, CEO of the World Green Building Council as of November 2018, is a passionate advocate for green buildings and cities as one of the most effective solutions to climate change and as a means to deliver on social justice and other environmental goals, such as stopping biodiversity loss.

 

She previously worked as CEO of Colombia Green Building Council and also has expertise in the fields of economic research, journalism and international affairs. Thanks to her active, committed and participatory leadership, and thorough knowledge of sustainable development, the Colombia GBC met significant milestones that enabled sustainability in construction to become mainstream in her home country.

 

Her degrees include a BA in Economics from University of Los Andes (Bogotá, Colombia) and a MA in International Relations and Economics from Johns Hopkins University, School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS, Washington DC, U.S.A.).

 

Recent keynote conferences include SE4All Forum in Lisbon 2018, Greenbuild Chicago 2018, and IADB Policy Forum for Ministers and Authorities of Housing and Urban Development in LAC Buenos Aires 2017.

 

Cristina is based in London, UK.

 

Luca De Giovanetti

Manager, Science-based Targets

World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD)

Topic: SBT4buildings - aligning the whole value chain for meaningful science-based targets

 

Luca is currently Manager for Science-based Targets (SBT) at WBCSD. He leads the SBT4buildings project aimed to enable companies in the buildings and construction system to take SBT that support the reduction of life-cycle carbon emissions of buildings along the whole value chain.  The project is core to the Market Transformation Work Area 3 of the GlobalABC. He also coordinates the work on SBT4utilities.

Before joining WBCSD he has worked in South Africa for Swisscontact for seven years on a sector and market-based project to facilitate energy efficiency and system transformation in the South African clay brick sector. He has previously worked for the Embassy of Switzerland in London in the Science and Technology office and in Argentina on Life Cycle Assessment.

He holds a master’s degree in environmental sciences from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETHZ), Switzerland.

 

Edouard Fourdrin

Assessing low Carbon Transition (ACT) initiative

ADEME - French Environment and Energy Management Agency

Topic: Highlighting a methodology on Science-based targets

 

Edouard Fourdrin works for the climate department of ADEME, the French Agency on Environment and Energy Management. He is specialized in the assessment of carbon strategies for companies and in charge of the ACT initiative at the French level. He especially lead the ACT methodological development for the building sector.

Edouard is also responsible of the R&D related to low carbon strategies of organizations. Before, he has worked for 10 years on environmental labelling of products, Life Cycle Assessment and Ecodesign, in ADEME and as a consultant.

 

Michael Scharpf

Head, Sustainable Construction & Green Labels

LafargeHolcim

Topic:Testing viable business models for a low carbon economy

He is responsible for the international alignment of activities on sustainable construction solutions across LafargeHolcim. The ambition is to provide tangible customer value with respect to the “Mexico Manifesto: Zero fossil energy – Zero emissions – Zero waste” which was developed during the Holcim Forum for Sustainable Construction held in Mexico City in 2010.

Sustainable Construction & Green Labels provides a “roadmap” for sustainable construction solutions, focusing on key customers and their specific needs in terms of sustainability such as saving water or energy, or building affordable housing with local materials. It is both an overview and starting point for the implementation of new sustainable construction solutions across a range of contexts.

Michael Scharpf worked as a mason before studying architecture at the University of Hannover, Germany and at the University of Lincoln, NE, USA. He holds an MBA from the University of Applied Sciences in Mainz, Germany.

After holding several roles as architect and project manager in Germany, he joined the international consultancy firm Arcadis. Initially in charge of property due diligence, he built up the sustainable construction division which performed consultancy services on energy use and resource efficient, safe and comfortable buildings, and conducted BREEAM, DGNB and LEED certifications.

In this role he was a founding member of the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) in 2007 where he participated in the first-time development of the German Green Building Label. He is a DGNB-accredited auditor and member of the DGNB Construction Product Board.
