The Global District Energy in Cities Initiative is supporting national and municipal governments develop, retrofit or scale up district energy systems, with support from the private sector. The Initiative is bringing together cities, academia, technology providers and financial institutions in a joint ambition to build the necessary capacity while engaging all stakeholders. Twinning between cities, matching champion ones with learned ones, is a key component of the Global District Energy in Cities Initiative.Activity related to low GHG and energy consumption and resilient buildings
Energy/climate/buildings-related activities: The Global District Energy in Cities Initiative aims to accelerate the transition of cities in emerging economies and developing countries to low-carbon, climate resilient societies through modern district energy systems. The initiative creates a market for district energy by, increasing awareness, demonstrating viability, creating an enabling regulatory framework, and facilitating the exchange of experiences.
